Belated fest recs
I am so behind on this, y'all: would you feel sorry for me if I said I have the stomach bug again? (a girl has to try!)
Two fics that were written for me, the first for Snupin Santa and the second for Small gifts:
Martyr: "Severus must persuade the Order that he is on their side after killing Dumbledore. When he thinks things are going as planned, Lord Voldemort changes everything."
I honestly didn't know that pinch hitters got a second fic, but they do! (So now, of course, I don't know which was my original story, and which was the pinch-hit for a pinch-hit - amazing!) And neither fic took the easy Option 3: mm! I love the ambiguity here, and I especially love that Remus is apparently blind to the fact that his ceaseless confabulation makes everything that much worse, especially when you want to be believed at some point. Here, have a bit!

Longest Night was my Small Gifts present from penknife. Yay, first-war Remus and Sirius smoking on the astronomy tower fic! (Do not ask me why I love smoking so much in stories, I just do… mm!) The feeling of revisiting an old school, of being drawn into a war, of uncertainty and fear, it's all here, painted subtly and left unsaid in the sharp dialogue:

one rec, one plea
Just to say that copperbadge's annual charity writing (and drawbles by waccawheels) fest is now up here. There is Remus/Sirius (bits and bobs from Stealing Harry-verse, if you like that) and some Snape/Lupin (cough*caning*cough), and lots of Sayers (including mine: Saint-George slash!) and Sherlock Holmes, and some American TV stuff that I don't follow, but still - lots of goodies! Enjoy!
(BTW, for Pervy Werewolf followers, my brand-new fondness (I don't think it counts as a kink) is for unexpected!slash (i.e., 'Please slash Saint-George with someone unexpected'). I totally blame bronze_ribbons for this. She hooked me but good!)
Right! Now for the plea! I know quite a few of you have done the 'Kinks and Squicks' meme. Could you please give me a link to your answers? And if you haven't done the Kinks and Squicks meme... please just leave a note here informing me what your kinks and squicks are. Happy Maddest House Christmas!
Hello there, and Happy Holidays! I hope you had a fantastic Solstice and enjoyed the National Holiday in Honour of the Emperor's Birthday. We are all getting excited about Omisoka here: akemashite omedetou gozaimasu - kotoshi mo, yoroshiku onegai itashimasu!
Or, hey, any of those other holidays y'all celebrate.
Due to either a) laziness, b) stomach flu, or c) incompetence, I do not have for Christmas what I wanted to give you. The only thing I can offer - and here I blame credit paulamcg - is the PG13/low R, no-graphic-sex version of The Maddest House. It is not entirely 100% sex-free, in that it is fairly obvious what will go on after I tastefully fade to black, but this is a story about love and redemption and I feel worse about the violence in it than the physical love. Enjoy!

busaikko's amazing non-wheat, non-dairy, no egg Christmas cake
1. In bowl, mix 50g of rice flour and 50g of tapioca flour with 1 tsp of baking powder.
2. In mixer, mix 1 large peeled, de-cored apple and 40g or so of sugar with a little coconut milk.
3. Add apple puree to dry ingredients. Mix (add some water or more coconut milk if needed).
4. Pour batter into rectangular parchment-lined baking pan (about 18cm square).
5. Bake at 180 degrees for about 12 minutes.
6. Remove from oven; lift cake out on the parchment. Coat with cream (see below) and, using the parchment like a sushi mat, roll the cake up (cake will likely be a bit sticky--what did you expect?).
7. Cover outside of cake with cream. If you want to do the whole 'bouche noel' thing, cut off the end of the cake a bit on the diagonal and glue with cream to the top of the cake.
8. Give all your decorations to the local 4-year-old and let him go nuts.
Cream:
1. Steam 2 or 3 medium sized satsuma-imo potatoes; or sweet potato I suppose; until very soft.
2. While warm, skin and cream the potatoes, adding coconut milk for good consistency and some sugar if you want.

busaikko's happy mid-December rec post 'o' doom
Caveat: Chez busaikko has been visited by the stomach-flu fairy, right on the heels of the broken-arm fairy and the sinus-infection fairy. My reading has been sporadic and my link-collecting dismal and I still have about 7 tabs open on Firefox; I'm sure I missed all kinds of things (I even missed when my own fic was posted, how dreadful is that?) but I figured I ought to post something, so... this is it. Yay! Recs are in three categories: Dark, Funny, and Hopeful; and, as you know, I'm dreadful at explaining why I liked anything, much less why you should go read it. Sorry, sorry, all around!
Caveat 2: I did a lot of beta-reading and advising and don't want to give anything away, but if you see a BIAS tag, it means I know who wrote it. It's still good!

Happiness... Sadness...
I just redid my Table of Contents and am feeling very productive. I added about 6 months worth of fics, and audio, and video, and, well. Whoa nellie, as schemingreader would say. I may have written close to 100,000 words in the past year (if we include my massive fest fics, which I do!) So: happiness! (And again: if you know of anything I've left lying about, please connect me with it....) P.S. I know there are coding bugs, I will kill them.... later.
And sadness.... I ordered myself a copy of Different for Girls for Christmas from a gal in Nebraska who does Amazon.co.jp. It arrived--and is PAL. *weeps* I need to look at our correspondence, but I am that close to sure she never mentioned that little fact. *watches video as it sits on table* Senjy: would it be cheaper to get it converted here, or to just buy another tape?

Fic-a-month meme, now with cheating!
Well! Somehow, this list does not look as impressive as I thought it would... I seem to have mislaid two months. But here is a wafer-thin slice of what happened in busaikko-land this past year. I cheated, of course, to puff myself up and look more impressive than I really am (er--didn't you?).
And here is a plea: busaikko has a bad habit of writing things and sending them off into cyberspace and then forgetting they exist. If I have written any drabbles or particularly kinky comment porn that you think I ought to know about, please drop me a line. Smoke--the goldfish thing? Where is that? And please, can anyone find the MicroSoft 'Intel Inside' computer dubcon? Seriously, I've such a bad memory....

Research Hazardous to Mental Health
busaikko loves the Electric Light Orchestra. Her youth was spent on roller skates. But never until today had she seen Xanadu. OMG! She bought the video at a flea market today for (cough) fic research purposes, and literally laughed herself into tears whilst the spawn screamed, 'Mama, this is scary!' Words... cannot... express. Tis the Season for Pervy Werewolf fun!
Dear Flist: busaikko is indeed a sweet, fluffy creature who believes in Light and Love Conquering All. As you all know. Those who know I'm lying, keep reading... all others please, for your own sakes, go reread Stealing Harry.
So. Pervy Werewolf is having a little stocking stuffer fest this month, and I asked for "Remus/unexpected baddie dark noncon". Whoa, nellie, am I ever a happy, happy busaikko tonight! For my prompt was taken by none other than bronze_ribbons (remember the Hermaphrodite!slave!"I must rape you"!Werewolf!Severus!BDSM!happy-ending' fic with a kitchen sink series? THAT Bronze Ribbons).
You'll laugh, you'll cringe, you'll cry and flinch, you'll probably not want carrots for dinner (er--unless you do, in which case I do not want to know). It's crack thats so through-the-looking-glass that it goes straight to the heart -- the world may have gone mad, but Remus is still achingly Remus.
